UK investment platform AJ Bell began introducing its new identity to the direct-to-consumer service on September 5. The name remains, while the system gains a bell symbol, new typeface and colour palette. It must operate across the app, advertising, literature and sports events; the group website and Investcentre follow during 2027.
What changed
A bell grows directly from the name and needs little explanation. That literal quality is useful in real media: a simple mark can read as a favicon, on a phone, in outdoor advertising and on race materials.
- September 5, 2026: D2C rollout began.
- 2027: group website and Investcentre rollout.
- More than 750,000 customers: the company’s direct and advised base.
- September 13: the Great North Run becomes a major public test.
Designed backwards from media
AJ Bell already owns the Feel good, investing platform, uses Anita Ward’s Ring My Bell and sponsors the AJ Bell Great Run series. The identity therefore connects existing touchpoints rather than inventing a new story. The mark must survive tiny digital sizes, financial data, motion and race signage.
Why the rollout is phased
A financial service cannot replace every screen and document overnight. Phasing reduces operational risk but creates a temporary consistency challenge. Design teams need component libraries, partner rules, version control and retirement dates for old assets.
What design must prove
AJ Bell wants wider reach while retaining associations with simplicity, low cost and service. A logo alone cannot prove that. The business should measure symbol recognition, understanding of the proposition, completion of key app tasks and trust among existing customers.
- Test contrast and legibility in every state;
- separate symbol recall from product understanding;
- measure movement from Great Run exposure to brand search;
- audit old documents and partner templates;
- compare equal audiences before and after rollout.

UA Banner conclusion
The strength of AJ Bell’s approach is not surprise but channel fitness. A simple symbol can connect app, advertising, music and sports better than an elaborate metaphor. The real test is whether recognition survives a two-year transition and whether new audiences understand the product, not merely notice the mark.
