Modelo has launched It’s Not Just Game Day. It’s Tradition in the United States, focusing on the rituals surrounding college football rather than the score alone. The official beer sponsor of the College Football Playoff prepared three broadcast stories, expanded work with ESPN, FOX and Barstool Sports, and says media investment in the property is up 18% year on year for the 2026–27 season.

Three stories about repetition

Same Time, Next Year follows Michigan and Ohio State rivals as they age across annual meetings. Texting connects an Oregon-supporting father and daughter at a distance. Taste of the Tailgate centres food, preparation and company outside the stadium. In each case, the value comes from something that returns every season: a person, a recipe, a place or a message before kickoff.

Why fans, not athletes, lead

Putting supporters at the centre lets the brand work across teams without choosing one side. It also creates local versions of a national platform. Homefield merchandise and activations around particular rivalries can reflect different campus cultures while keeping one strategic idea.

Responsible targeting matters

An alcohol brand is operating in an environment that includes underage students. Official promotion rules restrict entry to US residents aged 21 or over, require no purchase and do not award alcohol as a prize. The media plan still has to monitor the actual audience composition of each digital placement, not simply rely on legal wording.

UA Banner has discussed why scale requires proof of incrementality. Here, an 18% budget increase is an input, not an outcome. Measurement should separate unique 21+ reach, local activation lift, search and sales movement around major games, and age-compliance performance.

UA Banner conclusion

The platform is strongest when it joins a fan ritual without claiming ownership of it. National reach plus local detail can create memory, but success will be defined by incremental effect and responsible delivery—not merely by more impressions.
